Uncooked Peanut Butter Fudge

Oooo! Do you love peanut butter?? How about some homemade peanut butter fudge?

I came across this recipe again the other day that my aunt shared with us quite a few years ago. I have fond memories of helping to make this peanut butter fudge when I was still a child at home. Though we often made it at Christmas time, this recipe is good for any time of year.

It only calls for 4 ingredients and there is no cooking involved. It does take some kneading by hand but that’s a great way for your kids to use up some of that excess energy! πŸ˜‰ You will need 1/2 Cup of peanut butter, 1/2 Cup Karo corn syrup, 3/4 Cup powdered milk and 3/4 Cup powdered (or confectioners) sugar.

First put the peanut butter into a medium sized bowl.

Add the Karo corn syrup and stir together. If you have younger children helping, this is a good part for them to do.

Next add the powdered milk.

And finally add the powdered sugar.

Stir the ingredients together as best you can and then knead with your hands.

Turn the mixture out onto a clean countertop and knead together until all the ingredients are mixed in. You can divide the fudge among the kids helping so each can do some of the kneading.

Spread it into a pan or cookie sheet to the thickness you like. I think my mom spread it more on the thin side, maybe so we 6 kids got to have a piece or two without getting totally “sugared up”. πŸ˜‰

Cut into pieces. Running the knife under hot water occasionally can help with the cutting process.

The pieces will stick together so you might want to store them so they don’t touch each other. You can do layers with wax paper in between the layers. Or the way we used to do it was to tear off some rectangular pieces of wax paper…

Place a piece of the fudge in the center…

Fold the long edges in overlapping each other…

And then twist the ends closed.

And there you have it! A fun treat for the family and hopefully your kids used up some of their extra energy! πŸ˜‰ Enjoy!

Taste Testing Tuesday #62 – What Goes With Peanut Butter?

Here we go with another Taste Testing Tuesday! Did you ever think about all the things you can do with peanut butter? It can be used to make cookies, cakes, pies, pizza, chili and it’s paired with all sorts of veggies and fruits, oatmeal, drinks, candy…the list goes on and on! For today’s taste test, we’re just going to put some peanut butter on some small pieces of bread and see what we can think of to put on top of it. Are you ready? Let’s go!

First, cut some bread into small pieces or use some crackers like Ritz crackers. I made 9 little pieces of bread for 1 person’s taste test.

Spread some peanut butter on each piece of bread.

I will share with you the 9 foods that we paired with our peanut butter but feel free to come up with your own combinations.

#1.) Strawberry Jam.

#2.) Honey

#3.) A slice of banana

#4.) Miniature Chocolate Chips

#5.) Apple Butter

#6.) Miniature Marshmallow

#7.) Raisins

#8.) Chocolate Syrup (The kind that goes on ice cream.)

#9.) Caramel Topping (Also the kind that goes on ice cream.)

Make the same taste test for each person that wants to participate. Let the tasting begin! They all look so yummy!!

For some added fun, make a chart so you can record what each person thinks of each type of peanut butter bread. Here’s what my chart looks like:

I put the names of the participants down the left hand side of the chart and filled in the spaces across the top with the names of each item I added to the peanut butter and bread pieces. As you taste each kind of sample, draw a smiley face in the corresponding square on the chart to show what you thought of that sample. A face that is smiling means, “YUM!”. A straight face means “It was ok.”. And a frowning face means, “No, thanks!”.

If you have room on your paper, you can add another column titled “Favorite” and each person can write in which sample they liked the best.

And now you know what your family likes with peanut butter! πŸ™‚ I wonder if there were any samples that everyone liked? Or one that everyone didn’t care for? Whatever the results are, I hope you all enjoyed our Taste Testing Tuesday! πŸ™‚

Taste Testing Tuesday – #24 Sandwiches

Let’s taste test some sandwiches! I’m guessing probably everyone likes at least one kind of sandwich. But there are SO MANY that I thought it might be a great thing to do a taste test on. πŸ™‚ Have you heard the story of how the sandwich was invented? Let me share it with you here:

Shared from Quora.com.

Elisa Perret,Β Student in English and German answered…

Did the Earl of Sandwich really create sandwiches? How?

The Earl of Sandwich did create the concept of sandwich, and it’s actually a funny story.

John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich was an 18th-century English aristocrat who was very fond of card plays, he could spend the day at a table playing with fellow aristocrats.

Once, he asked his valet to bring him a piece of meat tucked between two pieces of bread in order to play and eat without putting grease on his fingers and cards.

It is commonly said that Lord Sandwich was fond of this form of food because it allowed him to continue playing cards, particularly cribbage,Β while eating, without using a fork, and without getting his cards greasy from eating meat with his bare hand!”

And now you know! Haha! No more losing sleep over not knowing where the sandwich originated! πŸ˜‰ Let’s get on with our taste test! Here are 6 sandwich suggestions you might try on your kids: (or for yourself!)

#1.) Peanut Butter and Jelly, of course! Most kids love this one already! Though many don’t care for the crust on the bread. You can vary the kind of jam or jelly, honey, apple butter, etc that you use.

#2.) Grilled Cheese. Another favorite that can be switched up by using different types of cheese together. I like Swiss and American cheeses in my grilled cheese sandwich.

#3.) Bacon, Egg and Cheese. Mmm! I add a little mayo to this tasty combo.

#4.) Peanut Butter and Banana slices. A little sweet with the sticky. πŸ˜‰

#5.) Grilled Lunchmeat and Cheese. I like to add mayonnaise and honey mustard to mine and use 2 kinds of cheese with turkey or ham. Scrumptious!

#6.) Egg Salad. This is one of my favorites! Hardboiled eggs, peeled and chopped up with some mayo and salt added…mmmm!

I wonder how many of these sandwiches you’ve had before? And how many have your kids tried? Which ones get a smiley face beside them? Thanks for stopping by for another Taste Testing Tuesday! I hope you found something that will make your kids say “Yummy! May I have some more please?” πŸ™‚
